Where?
The course takes place in a personal setting, Lindenlaan 6, 6523 MG Nijmegen. Free parking. Easy to reach by bus 8 - just a 2-minute walk from the Sophiaweg stop.
When?
Summer 2025: The first course starts on July 7 and the last course ends on August 29. Lessons are offered:
A. in the evening (starting at 7 PM)
B. in the morning (starting at 10 AM)
C. in the afternoon (from 2 PM onward).
The cost is always 500 euro for 20 lessons. Lesson duration depends on group size, so there’s always enough time for everyone to ask questions and practice speaking:
- groups of 7 to 8 people - 2.5 hours per lesson
- groups of 5 to 6 people - 2 hours per lesson
- groups of 3 to 4 people - 1.5 hours per lesson
- private lessons - 40 minutes per lesson
- prefer learning with a friend or partner? Duo-lessons last 1 hour and are tailored to both of you.
Why?
Maybe a course in a big group just isn’t right for you. Perhaps you have specific learning goals, or fixed class times simply don’t fit into your schedule. If any of these sound familiar, a tailor-made Dutch language course could be the perfect solution for you. Flexible timing – take the lessons over 4, 5, 6, 7, or 8 weeks, whichever suits your schedule best. Small group setting – a maximum of 8 people per class. Flexible group size – join an even smaller group or take one-on-one private lessons if you prefer.
Which level?
In a free intake interview, we'll explore your personal goals and find the right level for you. At the end of the course you'll receive a certificate of participation. Prefer to aim higher? I'll gladly prepare you for the official A1, A2 or B1 exam.
The cost?
20 personalised lessons (16 in person and 4 via email) for 500* euro - including all course materials, coffee, tea, etc.
* If you are truly motivated to take this course but cannot afford the €500 fee, please send me an email explaining your situation. We’ll work something out together and find a solution. If you’re in a position to contribute a bit more, it’s deeply appreciated — your support helps others who can’t afford the course to still be able to join.
Who is Robin Mattias?
Dr Robin Mattias Hurkens is an experienced NT2 teacher. With a background in philosophy and a first-degree qualification in cultural and artistic education (CKV), he began volunteering as an NT2 teacher at Step in 2023. His enthusiasm for teaching NT2 grew from the realisation that he can truly make a difference for his students.
Teaching Dutch is about much more than just grammar — language learning is also about being able to communicate, even when your Dutch is still limited.
Robin places a strong emphasis on practical, everyday use: how to hold a conversation, ask for help, and express yourself in daily situations. Communication is key — once you can communicate, you can practice. And if you want to learn Dutch, you need to practice, practice, practice.
Dutch isn’t easy, but Robin shows that it can also be fun — both to learn and to practice.
